Doncaster Council’s website has been rated one of the best in the UK following an annual audit earlier this year.
The website was awarded the top rating of four stars by external reviewers, making it the highest-ranking in South Yorkshire.
Doncaster Council is one of only three councils in Yorkshire and Humber to receive four stars and one of 36 councils out of over 400 local authorities nationwide.
The four star rating, awarded by the Society of IT Management (SOCITM), marks significant progress for the new-look website, which has improved year on year from 2013, when it received one star, to two in 2014 and 2015 and three stars last year.
SOCITM’s Better Connected audit tested the website against various customer tasks such as finding housing, requesting a bulky waste collection and finding information about social care and support. It also tested the site on its usability, accessibility and how it performs on a mobile device.
Cllr Jane Nightingale, Cabinet Member for Customer and Corporate Services, said: “We are delighted with this fantastic achievement. It marks a significant milestone in our digital transformation, to ensure our online services are efficient, effective and value for money.
“Lots of hard work has gone into making our website more user-friendly and accessible for all, so being commended for this, and other areas of the website, shows the great progress we’ve made in creating a website that works so well for people.”
Work will continue on the website to ensure further improvements of online services in the future.
