Doncaster Council has become the first local authority in the north of England to trial an innovative scheme to tackle dog fouling.
Working with Swedish company Tikspac, the council has installed free dog waste bag dispensers at two local parks in an attempt to crack down on careless dog owners.
The two areas chosen for the trial, Sandall Park and Bentley Park, will have stations located at their entrances offering free waste bags to dog walkers. This leaves no excuse for careless owners who don’t pick up after their dogs.
Cabinet member for Regeneration, Cllr Joe Blackham, visited Sandall Park to meet with Don Crabtree, one of the leaders of the Friends of Sandall Park group.
Cllr Blackham said: “We are hopeful that this trial scheme will lead to a fall in the number of dog fouling incidents in the parks, and if it proves successful then we will consider introducing it across Doncaster.
“We are committed to making our public spaces cleaner, greener and more enjoyable for residents and visitors, and this kind of innovative scheme is a great way to do it.
“We are the first council in the north of England to try this, and it reflects our commitment to improving the environment through our This is my Doncaster campaign.”
