Bulky item collections

We provide collection services for your unwanted bulky household items, such as furniture, electrical appliances and certain DIY wastes.

To request a collection, open up the specific drop down for the item you would like collecting, read the information about the collection and hit the button at the bottom of the information to make your request.

Disposable items

What are disposable items?

Furniture, electrical goods, carpets and mattresses are good examples - typically any bulky household item that you would take with if you were to move house.

Building waste and brick rubble, plasterboard, soil, garden waste, hazardous waste, liquid waste, car tyres and car parts are not removed on this service.

How many collections can I request?

You can request up to four bulky collections per year, with a maximum of eight items per collection. Bookings are made one week in advance only.

How much does it cost?

  • £30
  • If you in receipt of either Housing Benefit or Local Council Tax Support then this cost is reduced to £15. If so, you will need to provide us with your National Insurance Number, Benefit Reference Number and postcode (so we can verify you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit)

Where do I put them for collection?

In an easily accessible location outside your property, (not in a garage or out-building), but within your boundary and you will need to tell us where they will be. We are not able to enter your property to collect items. Items should be made available for collection by 7:30am on the day and will be collected by 5pm.

If you leave items in your back garden make sure that they are properly contained, a manageable size and easily moved, ensuring that they will fit down the side of your house. If in doubt please leave the items in your front garden. If bags or bin liners are used these should be tied so not to spill, the bags used should be no larger than an average black bin liner (sack) not a wheeled bin liner.

  • We can only collect the exact items specified
  • All items must be left within the boundary of your property
  • If an item is collected using the bulky collection service, and it is considered that the item is reusable, that item may be resold accordingly through Doncaster Refurnish

What are reusable items?

Any large item in good working order that you think someone else could use.

How many collections can I request?

There is no limit to the number of collections per year. Bookings are made one week in advance only.

How much does it cost?

Your items will be collected free of charge, however, if it is considered that the items are unsuitable they will be left.

Should you still require these items collecting you will need to contact us to request and pay for a disposable bulky collection, or you may wish to use one of Doncaster's Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Where do I put them for collection?

  • Items should ideally be presented outside for collection in an easily accessible location outside your property, but within your boundary, you will need to tell us where they will be.
  • Items should be made available for collection by 7:30am on the day and will be collected by 5pm.
  • Please ensure the item/s are covered and kept from being spoilt. If you leave items in your back garden make sure that they are properly contained, a manageable size and easily moved, ensuring that they will fit down the side of your house. If in doubt please leave the items in your front garden. 
  • We can collect reusable items from inside your house, if you would like us to do this you must include details on the form.

What do I need to do to prepare them for collection?

Please ensure fridges or freezers do not contain any food or drink.

Where do I put them for collection?

  • In an easily accessible location outside your property (not in a garage or out-building) but within your boundary. You will need to tell us on the form where they will be.
  • If your fridge or freezer is reusable we will be able to collect it from inside your house, if you would like us to do this you must include detail on the form.

When will you collect it?

You will be advised of the next available collection day and will be able to book your collection for that day, however we cannot give you a specific time for the collection.  Items should be made available for collection by 7:30am on the day and will be collected by 3:30pm.

We do not collect industrial fridges or freezers, you will need to contact a private contractor to carry this out.

A note about items you leave outside your home

We do not accept liability for any items left outside your home and do not accept responsibility if items are taken from outside your property prior to the collection date.

Want to cancel your bulky collection or have further questions?

If you wish to cancel your bulky collection you can do so and request a refund, this must be done by informing our customer services team, please contact 01302 736000Refunds can only be processed up to the day before your agreed collection date. If you cancel your bulky collection after this time a refund will not be available.

Alternative collection and disposal options

  • Furniture Recycling - Working in partnership with the council Doncaster Refurnish collects bulky household furniture and goods from domestic properties in the Doncaster Borough.
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres - There are six Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) also referred to as tips, dump it or dumpit sites in Doncaster, these facilities provide a wide range of free recycling and household waste disposal services.
