Single occupier discount review

Doncaster households are being urged to tell The Council if they are claiming Council Tax discounts they are not entitled to.

Apply for a Single Occupier Discount

This page is for residents to tell us if they are claiming Council Tax discounts they are not entitled to. For more information about how to apply for a Single Occupier Discount, please visit our Single Occupier discount page.

The Council are set to launch a new rolling review of single occupier discounts in a bid to ensure only those entitled receive a discount. A 25% single occupier discount on council tax bills is available to households where only one adult is living in the property.

The review will be done by comparing its Council Tax information with other databases to identify those cases where more than one adult is living at an address and a discount is still being claimed.

Most Council Tax discounts are claimed honestly and legitimately, but we know there are times where a household’s circumstances may change and that people forget to tell us their eligibility to a discount should be ended. We are required to review our records and correct any that we find to be incorrect. These corrections are made back to the date of the change. This means that households do not benefit from withholding information from us, making the system fairer for everyone.

If you receive a discount you think you should not receive, this is your final chance to tell us, before we contact you.

Households can contact Revenues by:

  • Returning your review letter by post to Revenues, SPD review, Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster DN1 3BU.
  • Using an online form
  • Ringing 01302 734454,
  • Visiting the Council offices at Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster DN1 3BU.

Please make sure you return your review letter as failure to do so will result in your discount being cancelled.
