Tour de Yorkshire 2018 - Get involved

The Tour de Yorkshire is a massive opportunity to showcase Doncaster to a national and international audience and a chance for Doncaster to shine.

It will help raise the profile of Doncaster and showcase our fascinating history and great local towns and villages. It is also an opportunity for the spotlight to be on our many fantastic local attractions including Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Doncaster Racecourse, Lakeside and Conisbrough Castle to name just a few.

Doncaster residents will get the opportunity to see top professional cyclists in action but not only that, they will be able to get involved too! Not in the actual race, of course, but by joining their local communities in helping to organise festivities across the borough.

The atmosphere is going to be electric so the more people on board, the merrier!

How to get involved

Only cycling brings world class sport to the people. There is no buying a ticket and going to a stadium; it comes to you, it belongs to you. You don’t have to be a fan of cycling either as the event is a carnival of fun.

We are looking for maximum community involvement to make the Tour de Yorkshire an event we will always remember. If there was ever a perfect time to unleash your enthusiasm, love and pride for your towns and villages then this is that time!

Artwork and street decoration

In 2016 we really embraced the spirit of the Tour de Yorkshire, with our towns and villages decorating their community with all sorts of fantastic street art from bright bunting to painted bikes. We want more of the same this time around please.

Let’s see your creativity coming to the fore, whether it’s a unique piece of land art, a cleverly dressed shop window or painted bikes mounted on walls and trees, we would love to see it.

We will are running various competitions to recognise and reward creative flair. If you are thinking big make sure you also enter your land art in the official land art competition: https://letour.yorkshire.com/information/land-art So we are calling on you, local schools, community groups, businesses, parish and town councils to get your thinking caps on and be creative. You can decorate your home, vehicles, gardens or even yourself in blue and yellow and help put your home town on the map!

Embrace it, enjoy it and please show us what you have done by emailing us or tweeting us.

Street parties and events

We are expecting loads of free events across the borough.

Just join in the parties in all the villages along the route or go to the Fan Zone on the Town Fields near the finish line where we will have Café Doncaster, Yorkshire’s largest cycle café. It will be packed with loads of fun things for the whole family to do.

Events on Thursday kick start the Delicious Doncaster Food Festival which runs from 4 to 7 May so you certainly don’t need to go away that Bank Holiday weekend to have a fantastic time. Simply stay here in Doncaster.

In fact, why not invite your friends and family over to enjoy one of the best parties seen in years?

Details of events across the borough will feature on www.visitdoncaster.com

Local businesses

The event could present significant benefits to you and your business as footfall across Doncaster is expected to increase significantly with spectators and tourists over the bank holiday weekend.

Our Business Doncaster team are on hand to work with you to get the best from the Tour de Yorkshire coming to town again so please contact them for advice and support.

We are working hard to ensure that parking and public transport is still widely available in the town and across the borough. We will regularly publish travel updates and road closure information on our traffic and travel pages, and our twitter account in the lead up to the race.

Why not go and cheer the riders on with your colleagues as the action flashes through our borough: routes and timings
