Doncaster Council is supporting people to get online, use the internet and learn new skills.

For some people the thought of using a computer may seem scary and daunting, especially if you’ve never been shown how to use one. For others, they may not have their own computer, tablet or smart phone or be able to access the internet. Whatever your circumstances, Doncaster Council can help.

Doncaster’s libraries go digital

If you are interested in going online but don’t have access to a computer or the internet you can visit any of Doncaster’s 24 libraries.

All our libraries are investing in their digital resources to ensure that they continue to be a key location within local communities, where residents can access computers, support and a range of training courses. You can use a library computer for free and access the internet for up to two hours or bring along your own device and access the wifi for free.

To find the nearest library to you, click and open the Get Online Map in the 'Downloads and Resources' section on the right of the page.

Digital Friends

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never touched a computer before as volunteers and members of staff from the libraries will be on hand. Known as ‘Digital Friends’ they can provide you with one-to-one support and assistance getting online.

  • Jackie is a Digital Friend at Woodlands Community Library and Hub. Read Jackie's story about how she introduces people to the internet, and the difference it make to their lives.
  • Lewis is a Digital Friend at the One Stop Shop in the Civic Building. Read Lewis's story and find out how he can show you how to raise your issue online, so preventing you from having to visit the One Stop Shop again.

Computer courses

Many libraries across Doncaster run a range of computer courses that can help support you to get online and learn new skills. To find out more and book a place, visit Doncaster Libraries website or call 01302 735387 or 01302 734410.

Learn My Way - online course

If you are interested in learning how to use the internet, the training course called Learn My Way can provide you with skills to make the most of the online world.

We caught up with some Doncaster residents who have benefited from attending one of these training sessions in our libraries. You can read their stories and see how their lives have changed in our case studies section.
