Doncaster's train station redevelopment

The entrance to Doncaster train station and forecourt have been transformed into an open, vibrant, welcoming and easily accessible new arrival point for Doncaster.

Background

We have transformed the station forecourt. It has become a quality gateway which delivers a great first impression for visitors arriving in Doncaster by train. This will help stimulate interest from investors and developers, helping to attract new investment and create jobs for the borough and wider region.

The regeneration project included moving the car park to the old Royal Mail Sorting Office site. This means the existing car parking space could be transformed and opened up into an attractive public space for all to enjoy.

There is a dedicated taxi rank, new car parking and easier drop off facilities. This helps the flow of traffic around the station as well as providing much easier pedestrian access into the town centre. There is also be better access for cyclists and secure cycle parking.

To ensure commuters are protected from all weathers, LNER, who manage the station have invested in a contemporary glass canopy on the front of the station building and made significant improvements inside Doncaster train station.

New public space

The beautifully landscaped public space is the biggest improvement with an exceptional piece of public art being the focal point. More information is available at: Doncaster Train Station Public Art

Partners

The exciting redevelopment of the station forecourt is being carried out in partnership with LNER and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE). The scheme benefited from £7.5m of Sheffield City Region Local Growth Funding.
