When you give up your time to take part in consultation or projects it is important that you understand the purpose of that piece of work and how your information will be used.

See the information below for evidence of how your voices have been heard so far across Doncaster.

School Nursing

You Said:

You would like to know who your designated school nurse is. You would like them to be more accessible if you need advice.

We Did:

The School Nursing Team has worked hard to make themselves more visible in Schools. You can also contact them via text on: 07917 031 891. They have also developed an ‘E-Clinic’ to allow young people (aged 11-19) to book an appointment to chat online with a School Nurse

Careers Advice and Information

You Said:

You wanted the opportunity to speak face to face with adults more to enable you to explore a variety of different career paths.

We Did:

Doncaster Skills Academy and the Enterprise Coordinators are now working hard across Doncaster to sign up businesses and employers to offer these opportunities in schools.

Independent Travel for SEND Young People

You Said:

Transport Information is often confusing and difficult to follow. More should be done to support us to travel independently.

Transport

You said:

Transport was voted one of the top issues in Doncaster during the 2017 Make Your Mark campaign.

We did:

Thanks to hard work and commitment from members of our Youth Council the 16-18 student travel pass has been changed to a new pass that includes all 16-18 year olds. This is great news as it means more young people can benefit from discounted travel across South Yorkshire/Doncaster. For more information on the pass you can visit: 16-18 Pass.

You said:

We want you to share our concerns and suggestions about transport in Doncaster with the SYPTE and ask them to make it better.

We did:

Youth Council members are part of a Yorkshire and Humber Transport Partnership Group who meet 4 times a year. Partners include SYPTE, Transport Providers, South Yorkshire Youth Council representatives. Work is currently underway to develop a South Yorkshire Region Transport Charter.

Awards and Recognition

You want your positive contributions to be recognised and celebrated.

We Did:

The former Civic Mayor, Majid Khan, set up the Civic Mayor Awards which is an individual award that offers formal recognition and accreditation for a young person’s outstanding contributions and achievements within Doncaster. As stated in our Children and Young People’s Plan, young people themselves have said they want more to be done to ‘celebrate their success beyond academic achievement’ They continually make positive contributions in a host of ways that deserves to be celebrated, and the Civic Mayor Awards celebrates this.

For further information on the award categories and to find out how to make a nomination please visit the Civic Mayor Awards page.
