New round of Environmental Pride open in Doncaster

The fifth round of Environmental Pride funding – which could see community groups receive grants of up to £5000 – is open for applications.

This climate-themed community fund – a joint initiative run by City of Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes – will invite community groups to apply for funding and assist with projects that demonstrate they both support the natural environment and make a difference to their community.

This funding stream will be split into two categories, with groups invited to apply for one or both of the two funding streams available.

  • Category 1: Physical improvements to natural environment (£100 - £5,000 available)
  • Category 2: Activities/events within public open spaces (up to £1,000 available per event) Get Doncaster Moving initiative

In addition to grant funding, community groups can request a range of support, including but not limited to:

  • Extra volunteer support
  • Business advice
  • Consultation with council officers
  • Promotion
  • Materials

Cabinet member for Sustainability and Waste at City of Doncaster Council, Cllr Mark Houlbrook said: “We’re looking forward to hearing from people across Doncaster who are passionate about making a difference to the environment – this funding offers a great opportunity to bring your ideas to life. It’s been a joy to see how the funding has been used in previous years with a variety of projects including Thornham Community Gardens in Armthorpe and the Mire Emergency, moss growing project in Hatfield Moors.

“This help is there for all. Even if you haven’t yet formed a community group and are just looking to get something going in your community, get in touch and if nothing else we can support you in the creation of that group and get that project or event started.”

Chief Executive at St Leger Homes, Chris Margrave said: “We are at that time of year again thinking about warmer weather and some of the projects we can get our communities and teams involved in. The Environmental Pride programme goes from strength to strength and aims to promote pride in our neighbourhoods and support tenants to become involved in projects close to their heart. All projects to date have made a real difference to our neighbourhoods.

“The application is easy, however we can support you if this is something you are concerned about. What we really want to see is local people coming together to improve their community, environment and open spaces.”

The application process will be open to groups such as charities, Community Groups such as Friends of groups, Social and not-for-profit businesses, schools and Parish councils (Category 2 funding only) and tenant clubs and associations.

The application process will take place through a 15-minute expression of interest online survey. Please note, support over phone or email will be available throughout the application window and will also include in-person and online ‘drop-in’ workshops session.
