What is this for?
To report an incident of hate crime that has already happened. In an emergency always call the Police on 999.
Hate crime is defined as "any crime or incident that is motivated by hostility on the grounds of race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity".
What is hate crime?
Usually such crimes are motivated by an offender's hatred of someone because of their: race, colour, ethnic origin or nationality, religion or belief, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, gender, age.
What form does hate crime take?
Hate crimes can take many forms, including: verbal abuse, threats/intimidation, neighbour disputes, physical attacks, criminal damage, offensive gestures, harassment, stalking, abusive/obscene calls, sending of offensive material, bullying at school or in a workplace, arson and in extreme cases, murder.

What we need from you
As much information and detail as possible about the incident of hate crime, including:
- What happened
- Where it happened
- Who was involved
- Details of any witnesses
What you should expect from us
Our aim is to investigate all reported instances. An officer will contact you within 24 hours if the complainant is considered vulnerable, or within 3 working days in all other instances - unless you have stated that you prefer not to be contacted or have reported the incident anonymously.
More information
The information we are asking you to provide will only be used for the management of your hate crime or incident report, unless the law allows or if you give us further permission for the re-use of the information. All information supplied will be stored securely and will be retained for 7 years in line with retention guidelines. The information will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and EU General Data Protection Regulation.
