We want to work with more people with lived experience of care and support to make good changes happen in Doncaster.

A group of people talking together.

We call this way of working co-production.

This information tells you about what to expect if we are working together to make change happen.

If you work with us to make change happen, we think it is important that you are recognised and valued for your work.

This information tells you about getting paid for your time.

Who we will pay

A person typing on a laptop, in front of two clocks. The time on one clock is 9:00. The time on the other clock is 5:00.

We will pay you for your time if you are not already being paid by the Council or by another organisation.

A group of people around a table all pointing to a large piece of paper.

We will pay you for things like being part of Board meetings, working groups, or project teams.

We will also pay you for working with us to recruit the right people, or if you help to run events or meetings.

A policy document.

We will not pay you if you choose to take part in things that are not covered by our Co-production Recognition and Reward Policy, like filling in a survey form.

How much we will pay you

A pile of bank notes and coins.

We will pay you £50 for each half day of your time (one morning or one afternoon).

If you work with us for a full day, we will pay £100.

We will also pay you for any extra costs involved in working with us, for example car parking, bus or taxi fares, replacement care or Personal Assistant (PA) costs.

These costs are called expenses.

How we will pay you

A hand holding some bank notes.

We will pay the money into your bank account. This is called a bank transfer.

We will need to know:

  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Your email address
  • Your bank account name
  • Your bank account number
  • Your bank account sort code

If you prefer, we can pay you with a gift voucher.

Payment if you receive benefits

A job centre.

If you receive benefits, you must tell Jobcentre Plus about any payment you have been offered.

We can help you with this.

Paying tax

A letter in a brown envelope. The envelope says 'Official' on the front.

If you accept payment for your time, you may have to pay tax on the money you get.

You need to get advice from the tax office.

The tax office is called HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

They will tell you how much, if any, tax you need to pay.

We can help you to get this advice.

Alternatives to payment

A charity collection box next to some coins.

You may decide you do not want to be paid.

We would still like to recognise your work and reward you in some other way.

Instead of paying you, we can pay the money to an organisation you choose, like a community group or a charity.

Or we can agree an alternative to payment, like a place on a training course, or use of a council meeting room.

When we will pay you

A social worker explaining something on a piece of paper to another person.

We will make sure you know how much you will be paid and when.

A calendar with a date circled. There are some bank notes above the calendar, and an arrow next to the notes is pointing to the date.

You will need to complete a Co-production payment claim form.

You will get paid for your time and any expenses as quickly as possible.

Payment should not take longer than two weeks.

You can get more information about all this from the person in the Council who has arranged for us to work together.

You can also email coproduction@doncaster.gov.uk with any questions.
