Additional green bins and renewals
Is your green bin feeling lonely? You can now subscribe to a chargeable green waste service for the collection of additional green bins from your home.
Do you have more garden waste than one bin can handle?
Then why not take advantage of an extra green bin for all your extra garden waste for a small annual subscription charge. These will be collected on a fortnightly basis on the same day as the green bin is currently emptied between March and November.
How to sign up
The annual subscription charge is £45 for the first additional green bin and £34 for each subsequent green bin to be paid at the beginning of the service.

You will be read a simplified version of our Terms and Conditions and if you wish to proceed you will need to provide a payment for your subscription. Please ensure you have your credit/debit card to hand before calling.
When will the additional bin arrive
The bin will be provided 2 working days after the payment has been taken.

Keep your additional green bin(s) and receive collections over the new subscription period.
How to renew your subscription
Renew your subscription before the 1st April and you will be charged at the rate for the previous year.
Terms and Conditions
When you sign up for an additional green bin collection, you will be accepting the following terms and conditions:
General terms
-
you agree to pay the council the applicable annual subscription charge for the collection of garden waste from any additional green bin(s) supplied to you by the council
-
the annual subscription charge is £45 for the first additional green bin and £34 for each subsequent green bin
-
garden waste collections operate fortnightly from domestic properties commencing in the first full week of March and ceasing in the first full week of December [39 weeks] annually
-
all bins supplied to you remain the property of the council. Additional green bins are supplied on a subscription only basis, you are paying for the collection and disposal of additional garden waste only
-
the subscription only service will be provided fortnightly on the same day that we collect your first green bin. Please refer to your waste and recycling collection calendar

there are no reductions for subscribing to the additional service part way through the year and you will not be entitled to claim a refund if you cease the additional service for any reason part-way through the subscription period
-
you may transfer the additional green bin collection service to another address within Doncaster if you move home. The transfer of service is free of charge but you must provide the council with 2 weeks’ notice of any transfer required

the subscription only service will not be provided and no additional green bins will be delivered to your property until full payment has been received

before the start of each new subscription period, you will be required to sign up and pay the subscription charge to be entitled to receive further additional green bin collections

if you do not subscribe before the start of the new subscription period the council will retrieve any additional green bin(s) delivered to your property in the previous subscription period

you may request the council to arrange for the removal of additional green bin(s) free of charge if for any reason you do not wish to continue to use, or renew, the subscription only service

you agree that the council can keep your contact details on file to enable us to communicate with you about your subscription service. All personal data will be held in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018 and any subsequent amending legislation
Collections
-
present your green bin(s) for collection in an accessible location, with the lid closed, at the boundary of your property adjacent the public highway by 7am on the scheduled collection day

the additional green bin(s) will be emptied on the scheduled collection day except where severe weather conditions or other critical operational issues stop the service from running. In such circumstances please leave your bin(s) accessible for collection and we will endeavour to return to collect as soon as practicable, this will normally be the following day

you are required to attach a valid subscription permit to the front of each additional green bin. The council will provide permits when you pay the subscription charge, these MUST be visible to the collection crews during collections or the additional bins will not be emptied

you agree to display the most recent proof of subscription permit(s) only and to remove any permit(s) from previous subscription periods from your additional green bin(s)

if your subscription permit becomes detached or lost you should contact the council by email at waste&recycling@doncaster.gov.uk

green bins should be taken back onto your own property as soon as possible after emptying. Bins left on the public highway after by Midday on the day following a successful collection may be removed for causing obstruction
-
the council recommends that you store bins securely to avoid them being lost, damaged or stolen. Administration and delivery charges apply to the replacement of Household Waste bins in accordance with the Councils’ Fees and Charges Policy (updated annually)

if you receive an assisted collection service, the subscription only service will operate in the same manner from the same location
Missed collections
-
if we are unable to empty a green bin because you did not present it for collection in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, we will not return to empty it until the next scheduled collection
-
there will be no refunds if we are unable to collect an additional green bin due to a breach of these Terms and Conditions

if you presented your green bin in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and it was not emptied, please report a missed collection.

the council’s collection vehicles are fitted with 360-degree CCTV camera systems to monitor collections. Our collection crews use in-cab technology to record exceptions including the reason for non-collection of bins scheduled for collection eg bin not presented or bin contaminated

all genuine reports of missed collections are normally rectified on the next working day. Please leave your bin(s) accessible for collection at the collection point until emptied
-
when severe weather conditions or other critical operational issues cause collections to be suspended, we will endeavour to rectify the missed collection as soon as the service is operational. If for reasons beyond our control, we cannot return to empty a bin before the next scheduled collection day, we will not be able to offer any refunds

during cold weather some of the contents of a green bin may become frozen and stick inside the bottom of the bin, whilst every effort will be made to empty the contents it may not be possible to fully empty the bin. In these circumstances we will not return to empty it again until the next scheduled collection

if a green bin is contaminated as a result of having the wrong items in at the time of collection, we will not empty the bin and we will not return to empty it again until the next scheduled collection. You must remove any contamination so that the bin can be emptied on the next scheduled collection

if the collection crew report that a bin was not presented in an accessible location when they came to empty it we will not be able to return until the next scheduled collection day
-
the collection crew will not collect any garden waste that is not securely contained within your bin(s) and will not empty bins that are overloaded or too heavy. Bins should be presented for collection at the correct time with the lid fully closed

if the collection crew report that a bin is too heavy or overloaded we will not return until the next scheduled collection. Please ensure that any excess waste is removed from the bin so it can be emptied the next time
-
if you regularly produce excess garden waste beyond your existing capacity then you may sign up for an additional bin on payment of the appropriate subscription fee.
Accepted material and contamination
- Green bins MUST only be used for the following items of garden waste:
• grass cuttings
• plants and weeds
• shrub pruning’s, twigs and hedge clippings
• leaves
• old or dead houseplants - You must chop up any branches you place in your green bin(s) to ensure that the lid of the bin is fully closed when presented for collection. No branches greater than 2 inches in diameter should be placed in your green bin(s). Leaves and plant matter should be loose and not contained in bags/sacks.
- Green bins MUST NOT be used to contain the following items
• soils, rocks and stones
• sawdust or pet waste
• food waste (including fruit and vegetable peelings)
• general Household Waste
• bags or sacks of any kind
• any item unsuitable for composting - If a bin is recorded as contaminated you must remove the contamination prior to the next scheduled collection.
