Charitable and Not for Profit Organisations

If you occupy a property and your business is a charity or an organisations that is not established for profit you may be entitled to business rates relief.

 Mandatory Relief for Charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs)

Relief of 80% is available to registered charities and CASCs provided the premises you are claiming for are occupied and used wholly or mainly for the purposes of the charity/CASC. 

Relief is awarded automatically at the time of registration if it is clear that the qualifying criteria has been met.

 Discretionary Rate Relief for Charities/CASCs and organisations that are not established for profit

Where 80% mandatory relief has been granted, the Council has the discretion to remit all or part of the remaining 20% of the bill.

The Council also has the discretion to remit all or part of any rate bill in respect of a property occupied by certain bodies not established or conducted for profit. The organisation must be limited by guarantee in order to be considered for any relief. 

The Council has a standard mechanism for determining applications for discretionary relief which can be found here DRR Policy ( Please note, this policy is currently subject to review and any changes to the scheme will be published at a later date).
