City of Doncaster Council has been successful in securing funding to deliver improvements to the Trans Pennine Trail between York Road and Melton Road. Funding has been obtained working alongside delivery partners Sustrans. The route forms part of a wider plan to create a network of walking and cycling infrastructure across Doncaster which will connect people to green space, transport hubs and areas of employment/education.

What are we doing?
The proposed works include improvements to the surfacing along the section of Trans Pennine Trail between York Road and Melton Road. The works also include adaption of access controls to make them user friendly, new wayfinding and seating.

Why are we doing this?
Convenient and accessible green infrastructure is a major determining factor on a number of local issues such as economic activity, climate change, leisure and recreation, and the health and wellbeing of our communities. Over the last few years, the condition of the surface of the trail between York Road and Melton Road has deteriorated making it difficult to use, particularly in wet weather. Investment in high quality green infrastructure will enable residents to access areas of employment, education, and green space with viable options other than the car, helping to achieve a cleaner and greener Doncaster.

How will this benefit local residents?
Improvements to the local walking and cycling network will help give residents more choice when it comes to choosing modes of travel for short journeys. Enabling more active travel in the area will have a direct impact on resident’s health and wellbeing. The proposed improvements will provide a better connection for residents to existing local routes, employment sites, schools, and the wider countryside for leisure and recreation.
