NHS Health Check
Information about the NHS Health Check service.
Are you aged 40 to 74 years old?
You could be entitled to a FREE NHS Health Check in Doncaster.
The NHS Health Check is free to eligible adults aged 40 to 74, who live in Doncaster and do not have one of the pre-existing health conditions listed on the NHS Health Check website.
The check will not only assess but can also offer advice on how to reduce your risk of developing the following conditions:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Kidney disease
- Stroke
If you are 65 years or over, you will also be told about the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for.
What happens at the check?
The check takes about 20 to 30 minutes with a healthcare professional. You will be asked some simple questions for example about your family history and lifestyle choices which may put your health at risk. A record will be taken of your height, weight, age, gender and ethnicity and you will have a blood pressure test, a cholesterol test, and possibly a blood sugar level test.
You will be given your cardiovascular risk score, told what it means and receive personalised advice on how to lower your risk and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
You may also be referred to local services, such as stop smoking and physical activity services, to help you make any changes.
