Renewal of library items on loan

How to renew a library book, CD or DVD that you have on loan

You can renew an item on loan to you for a further loan period (providing another borrower has not requested it) up to a maximum of 6 times. After this time it must be brought in to a library so that it can be discharged. It can then be reissued to you provided that no one has requested it.

Please note that the renewal of CDs, DVDs or Spoken Word incurs a fee which will be the same as the loan charge made when the item was borrowed. This charge will be added to your membership record.

There are several ways in which you can renew your items:

  • online by going to our Renewal of Loans* page

  • by visiting a library and asking a member of staff to renew your loans

  • by telephone

  • in writing - by letter or email

You will need your borrower number (on your library card) or the barcode number of the items you wish to renew.

*If you are renewing online you will need to have a PIN (Personal Identification Number). If you do not have one then please request this in person at your nearest library.
