Bessacarr conservation area represents the early C20th development of the Jarratt Estate between Cantley Lane and Bawtry Road as a prosperous suburb to the south of Doncaster, the area is almost completely residential. Though the first houses were built in the late C19th, Bessacarr's character is that of an early C20th suburb with original substantial dwellings on broad long garden plots well-spaced with good sized front gardens and large rear plots. The area has a feeling of spaciousness and is well treed.
Since 1920 development has continued on this pattern and the area has a wide range of architectural styles from the late 19th century onwards, with extremely decorative and elaborate buildings making the most positive impact, with the use of bays and gables. There is also a wide range of materials, with the use of red brick, render and small red plain tiles or slates being the most successful.
Since the area was appraised, the following building has been listed.
3a Ellers Road Grade II EH reference 1393115
This can also be viewed on the Heritage Map which gives the address, grade and reference number of the listed building. The reference number can be used to find the listing description for any individual listed building using the Historic England database.
