Design and conservation
The Design and Conservation Team (which is part of the Planning Policy and Built Environment Team) is responsible for the provision of detailed design and conservation advice on:
- historic buildings (whether listed or unlisted)
- Conservation areas (including the designation and review of Conservation Areas)
- Scheduled monuments
- new buildings in both urban and rural areas as part of planning applications or pre-application discussions
- and planning applications which impact on Historic Landscapes - including both nationally and locally designated Parks and Gardens
More information on listed buildings can be found at Listed Buildings (frequently asked questions).
This advice is in accordance with the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and other Planning Policy Guidance.
If you are planning a development it pays to seek archaeological advice from the Council's advisors, the South Yorkshire Archaeological Service.
Locally Listed Heritage Assets
This is a register of the buildings, monuments, sites and landscapes in Doncaster that are valued for their heritage by local people. It is not intended to be exhaustive but will be added to from time to time. Local Heritage Listing does not carry the same controls as national listing or scheduling but inclusion on the list means that the special interest of the heritage asset is a material consideration in planning applications. More information is available via Locally Listed Heritage Assets.
