Care Leavers - Inspiring Futures

The Inspiring Futures Team, (IFT), is responsible for providing services to young people leaving care in Doncaster, aged between 18 and 25 years old.

The service also works with social workers from the Children in Care team to support young people aged 17+ who are preparing to leave care.

Our role is to act as your ‘Corporate Parents’ which means it is our responsibility to act as good parents to all young people in our care. Being a good parent means keeping you safe and providing you with the highest possible level of support to meet your individual needs.

Who we work with

We want every young person who has been looked after to know that they have someone on their side who can support them up to the age of 21. This can be extended to the age of 25, if you want someone to continue to provide you with the support you need, or just someone to stay in touch with you.

Who we are

The team is made up of:

  • 1 Strategic Lead
  • 1 Service Manager
  • 3 Team Managers
  • 1 Advanced Practitioner
  • 1 Social Worker
  • 16 Personal Advisers
  • 2 Education, Training and Employment (ETE) Personal Advisers
  • 3 UASC Social Workers
  • 1 UASC Personal Adviser

How the Inspiring Futures Team can support you

Our aim is to support you to get the best out of leaving care and make sure you are well prepared for independence. We will work with you to help you to access:

  • housing
  • health services
  • education
  • training
  • work experience
  • improve your independent living skills
  • support you to manage and budget your finances

How we will work with you

We will talk to you about what you think is important and work with you to achieve what you want from life.

We will help and encourage you to achieve your goals and will celebrate with you when you do. We will do this by seeing you regularly and at least every two months, this can be much more often if needed.

We will work with you to develop your own Pathway Plan which will focus on:

  • the support you need
  • your housing and where you live
  • your education, training and employment,
  • your physical health and emotional well-being
  • your independent living skills
  • your relationships with the people who are important to you
  • your identity, community and society
  • hobbies, social and leisure
  • managing your money

When we create your pathway plan with you, we will assess what you need and agree what help we are going to give you, and how often you will see your Personal Adviser (PA).

How will my Personal Adviser (PA) support me?

Your Personal Adviser (PA) will set out what tasks they will do, which will also include some tasks for you to complete.

Your PA will check during their visits with you how these tasks are progressing and might agree some changes with you if these are needed. Sometimes, you might disagree with your PA, or you might have a difference of opinion; this is OK! We will work with you to find a way forward that works for you and will always explain to you why we might have to take certain actions.

If we agree to help you with something which isn’t set out in our local offer, we will record this clearly in your pathway plan. This means you can hold us to account if you feel we have not delivered on what has been agreed. We want to make sure that you feel listened to and that you know that what you say really matters to us.

How can I contact my Personal Adviser?

Your Personal Adviser (PA) will provide you with their email and telephone details so you can always get in touch when you need to.

You can visit your PA at the Inspiring Futures Team office, Colonnades House, Duke Street, Doncaster. DN1 1ER.

If you need to contact your PA and they are unavailable you can contact the Inspiring Futures Team on 01302 737559, and a member of the team will provide you with assistance. If we are unable to answer your call and you leave us a message we will return your call as soon as possible on the same day.

If you need to speak to someone because you, or someone else is in immediate danger call the appropriate emergency service on 999.
