Christmas Opening Hours, Useful Information and Key Contacts
Family History
The course is set up to help you find YOUR ancestors. Were they a poet, a pauper, a prince or a thief? Why don’t you find out? There will be a short talk each week and demonstrations of the websites, followed by a practical session to help you to find your ancestors. Many learners have found some surprising results and, once started, cannot get enough family history.
How are the sessions organised?
The sessions run for 5 weeks with a 2 hour session each week. There are 2 modules of 5 weeks if you choose to continue for the full course.
Will I get a certificate?
On successful completion of the course you will receive a Certificate of Participation which you can keep in your portfolio.
Classes cover the following areas:

Is this the right course for me?
You will need some basic computer skills, particularly using the Internet, in order to take part. If you don’t already have these skills, get in touch with AFCL to find out about a course. The course is suitable for learners at any stage of their family history research. Beginners and more experienced are all welcome. There are always new websites and new developments in the subject so there is something for everyone. Many of the learners eventually find ancestors back in the 1600’s.
Any special requirements?
It is always a good idea to bring along a notepad and pen. If you know who your grandparents are, their jobs and grandmothers’ maiden name, along with an idea of their year of birth, these will help you to get started.
