Doncaster’s All Age Learning Disability and Autism Strategy

In late 2018, with people who use services and their families and carers, we co-produced an engagement process to support development of a strategy for people with Autism and Learning Disabilities which was led by SpeakUp. All of your comments and ideas were used to develop a draft plan which we shared with you in May 2019, along with a number of key principles.

In late 2018, Doncaster Council, NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), local groups and organisations, with people who use services and their families and carers, began working together to develop a strategy for people with Learning Disability and Autism in Doncaster. The three year strategy was approved in March 2021.

You told us that the areas that were most important to you are:

Diagnosis of Autism
Education and Inclusion
Employment
Carers and Short Breaks
Housing and Support

We have also included three additional priority areas that are very important for people with a learning disability and/or autism. These are:

Health Inequalities
Young People in Transition into Adult Services
Transforming Care Programme (supporting people move from hospital into the community)

The work is ongoing to deliver each of these areas, and make sure we are providing the best services to meet the needs of the people of Doncaster.
