Information for those considering a future working for the council
Thank you for considering Doncaster Council as a future employer.
Working for Doncaster Council means you are helping to make a big difference by improving the lives of our local residents. We want to ensure that Doncaster and its people thrive and that effective value for money services are at the heart of everything we do.
Work/Life Balance
The Council believes that individuals should be able to work and enjoy a quality family life, and that the ability to balance life inside and outside of work is key to attracting and retaining the best employees. It is for this reason that the Council is committed to providing a range of provisions including flexible working arrangements and leave provisions.
This forms part of our commitment to improve equality of opportunity in employment, by recognising the different needs of a diverse workforce.
Annual Leave
Annual leave is paid time off work granted by employers to employees to be used for whatever the employee wishes.
Comparable to some private sector employers the council’s annual leave entitlement is generous and depends on their rate of pay and length of continuous service.
Employees are able to purchase up to 10 days additional annual leave through our salary sacrifice arrangement, a pro-rata entitlement applies to part-time and job share employees.
Doncaster Council recognises continuous service from local government employers.
Learning and Development
The Council is committed to enabling continuous learning and development opportunities for all employees. Here is a taste of what we offer:

Pensions
With more than 5 million members, the Local Government Pensions Scheme is one of the largest public sector pension schemes in the UK. Our scheme administrator is South Yorkshire Pensions. All employees in the scheme from 1st April 2014 pay contributions using a banding system which is based on actual pensionable pay assessed each month. Employee contributions range from 5.5% to 12.5% with the Council currently contributing 15.2% towards your pension.
