The BFI Specialist Film Curation and Archiving Residential is new this year and will be hosted by the BFI Film Academy over the duration of a week (17-23 February 2025) at The Showroom Cinema in Sheffield. The course is open to 16-19-year-olds across the UK who are interested in archive films, producing documentaries with archival material, or who enjoy old films and film history.
Participants will visit national, regional and broadcast moving image archives, such as BFI National Film Archive, ITV Archive and Yorkshire Film Archive. Throughout the week, daily workshops, masterclasses and film screenings will cover the essential skills to becoming part of the industry. Attendees will receive talks and sessions delivered by industry professionals, who will share their expertise in film conservation and curation. Following this, participants will apply what they have learnt to curate and edit an archive film touring package.
