Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
Opening times, how to find the HWRCs and a list of household wastes accepted on site. The HWRCs are operated by HW Martin on behalf Doncaster and Barnsley councils. PLEASE NOTE that Winter hours of 9.30am to 5pm commence on all sites, except Armthorpe, from October 1.
General Information
There are six Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Doncaster. These facilities provide a wide range of free recycling and household waste disposal services.
Household waste is typically waste that you would normally put into your wheeled bin(s) at home, items of furniture and electrical items that you would normally take with you when you move house if they were in good working order.
Household waste is not waste generated from any internal refurbishment work or exterior hard-landscaping work. Please see the download " Construction and Demolition Wastes Guidance" on this page for further information about the restrictions in place regarding the disposal of this type of waste.
Site operatives are available on site to provide assistance, if requested.
PLEASE NOTE - when visiting any HWRC, children under the age of 16 and dogs must stay in the vehicle at all times.
PLEASE NOTE - if you have a sign written vehicle of any type, you cannot deposit any waste that can be linked to the business advertised.
Changes to access for HWRC sites
How you access HWRCs in a van (medium/large), car with trailer or as a pedestrian has changed for more information please visit: Frequently asked questions about Household Waste Recycling Centre Passes
Doncaster and Barnsley Councils have recently awarded a new contract for the management of the HWRCs to HW Martin Waste Ltd. This has resulted in changes made to better manage the sites, achieve higher levels of recycling and re-use whilst providing residents with improved facilities and service.
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, recently installed on all HWRCs means it is possible to replace the paper ‘Vehicle Permit’ with a new digital solution in the form of an automated Pass scheme. There will be no need to display a paper permit, meaning that site staff will not be required to check it and will have more time to help site users.
A pass is not required for residents visiting our HWRC sites in their personal cars.
The new Household Waste Recycling Centre Digital Service and Online Portal will provide residents with convenient 24/7 access to the system where you can apply for a pass, where required, make a site booking and manage your details, should you move or change vehicle.
The changes made mean that some vehicles will no longer be required to apply for and display a permit and that you will no longer need to nominate one specific site.
Reuse
The Council and our recycling contractor, HW Martin are asking residents to donate good quality items to begin stocking our reuse shop. Residents can drop off items at their local HWRC. Items of interest include bikes, small electrical items, Dyson and Henry hoovers - please ask our Site Staff if you are unsure if an item is suitable.
Reusing is a great way to reduce waste, protect the environment and save money too. Money raised through the reuse shop in the past has helped to support local food banks as well as the charity Doncaster Refurnish.
The YoRRRShop (Yorkshire's Reuse Refurb Resale Shop) can be found at Sheffield Road, Conisbrough DN12 2BU.
