Research

The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Museum offers a paid research service looking into soldiers who served in the regiment. These searches will incur charges dependent on the complexity of the enquiry. If you are enquiring about the Museum’s research service, please provide as much information as possible about the individual you are researching including name, service number, battalion number and dates served, if known. Please note it may take up to 4 weeks to investigate and respond to your request. For more information about the service and the research charges, please contact

Please note if you are researching a soldier who served after 1920, their service records are still held by the Ministry of Defence (MOD). You can find out more about making a request on the Government website.

King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Project 2023-25

City of Doncaster Council has been awarded almost £100k from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which will be put towards the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) collection.

The KOYLI regimental museum is based at Danum Gallery Library and Museum and displays weapons, uniforms and medals showcasing the amazing true stories of Yorkshire soldiers and their families in peace and wartime.

This cash injection, made possible by National Lottery players, will help make the collection more accessible to the public at the City of Doncaster Archives at Chequer Road. There will also be a range of volunteering opportunities on the project which will include undertaking collections research and digitisation. Wellbeing sessions using the rich historic collections will be run for young carers and veterans.
