About Sandall Beat Wood

In 1966 Doncaster Council designated the wood a local nature reserve (LNR) because of its rich and varied wildlife. Further protection was given in 1984 when the Nature Conservancy Council - now Natural England - classified the area as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) because of the wood's rare insects.
