Why Foster for Doncaster?
We need more people to Foster for Doncaster, to be there for Doncaster children and young people at a time when they need it the most. If you have the skills, space in your home, and compassion to care for vulnerable children during their time of need, consider fostering. Your heart and home can make a difference!
Fostering isn’t always easy, but it is also incredibly rewarding. It not only changes the lives of the children who are fostered, it can also change your life too.
We believe that if children need to come into care, where it is in their best interest, they should stay living near the people and places they know. We can only do this by having more people Foster for Doncaster.
Here are some reasons to consider fostering with us:
You'll be doing something amazing.
All our foster carers talk with a great sense of passion and pride about the difference they have made in a child's life. Read more about the experiences of our foster carers on our Meet our carers page.
You'll be supported every step of the way.
From your initial application and throughout your time fostering with us we will be there to support you. When a child is placed in your care, you will have access to expert advice 24/7, 365 days a year to support you to provide the child with the best possible care.
You'll get to develop your skills and expertise.
Through our training programme and regular support groups, which will help give you a greater understanding of how to support the children in your care. Find out more about our offer on our Foster carer training and development page.
You'll receive a generous allowance to support the child in your care.
As well as tax relief and payments to cover additional expenses such as the child's birthday and religious holidays. You can find out more about the financial support we offer our carers on our Payments and Benefits page.
You'll have a bigger support network.
You'll be a part of a large network of local foster carers and support groups. You will automatically get membership to the Doncaster Foster Carers’ Association, which offers a weekly youth club and lots of events for our foster families to enjoy together throughout the year. Learn more about our support offer.
We are 100% not-for-profit.
Being a not-for-profit organisation allows us to focus on the best interests of our children and carers.
You'll have shorter gaps between placements.
Our priority is always to match children with our foster carers. Having recruited, assessed and trained our carers, we know them well and know they have the skills to support our children. It also means that our children can stay living near the people and places they know, so they can keep going to the same school and clubs and stay in touch with friends and family.
Our foster carers therefore have shorter gaps between placements, allowing them to continually develop their skills and expertise.
Mockingbird - creating an extended fostering family.
Our Mockingbird hubs help create the support non-fostering families have by bringing together up to ten fostering families in each hub. At the heart of each of these ‘families’ is a specially recruited and trained foster carer who supports the other foster carers by offering play dates, babysitting social activities etc or just being that friendly familiar friend who is there to offer support and advice.
You can combine work and fostering.
You can work and foster as long as you have the flexibility needed so you can be there for a child when they need it.
