Local Offer - Doncaster's SEND Co-production Charter

Co-produced by Doncaster parents, children and young people as well as partner agencies, including Doncaster Parents Voice, the Co-Production Charter sets out how families and professionals can listen to each other and work together in partnership to deliver better outcomes for children and young people in Doncaster with special educational needs and disabilities (or SEND for short).

The charter sets out our ambitions for working with families and is led by four key principles: valuing each other, listening and communicating, being accountable and working in partnership.

The local partnership has asked families what the key issues are for them in Doncaster and will be organising co-production meetings in the Autumn to use this approach to make improvements to services. We also want the principles within the charter to guide professionals in all their work with families on an individual or strategic basis.

This will offer opportunities for families to be involved in shaping the delivery of the service as well as putting the needs of the individual at the heart of the decision-making process and is part of the Local Offer.

As part of the Co-Production Charter we will:

Be accountable

  • Take responsibility and do what we say we will in a timely manner
  • Focus on solutions and set expectations
  • Explain clearly what is available and what is not
  • Acknowledge our mistakes and take action to resolve them
  • Provide opportunities to openly reflect on decisions
  • Ensure Information and decisions are documented

Value each other

  • Respect each other, our individuality and our opinions
  • Appreciate, celebrate and build on our strengths and differences
  • Recognise that we all add value and have different knowledge and experiences to share
  • Treat each other with kindness and dignity

Work in partnership

  • Encourage participation and make it easier for everyone to work together
  • Learn from each other and improve our knowledge
  • Build trust and work towards a common goal for children and young people
  • Be inquisitive and don't allow preconceptions to cloud our judgement
  • Respect each other as equals, with different experiences and value our contributions as equal partners

Listen and communicate

  • Communicate clearly and openly in plain English - no jargon
  • Actively listen to each other's views
  • Use positive, inclusive and constructive language
  • Be transparent, open and honest in our communication
  • Be mindful that people may not be aware of how/what support they can access
